How I want Google to understand my name
Gabe Key and Gabriel Key refer to the same person: a photographer and operator in Apex, North Carolina. I run GKeyPhoto, founded Firmkit, and lead business development at Secur-Tek. This site brings those roles together so someone searching my name can find a clear account of the person behind them.
One person, different kinds of work
The photography practice has its own home at GKeyPhoto. That is where the galleries, session information and booking process belong. Someone looking for family photographs should not have to read about a CRM to find a session.
Firmkit has a different job. It installs and runs the operating kit for owner-operated trade companies in the Triangle. Its site explains the offer. This site explains who founded it.
Secur-Tek is an employer. I lead business development there, covering marketing, sales and brand strategy. Work completed on its systems belongs in that context. It should not be mistaken for a Firmkit engagement. The Secur-Tek case study makes that distinction explicit.
A name should lead somewhere useful
The useful version of a personal site answers a few ordinary questions. Is this the person I met? What does he actually do? Where can I see the work? Where should I go next?
It does not need a separate identity for every discipline. It needs consistent names and clear destinations. The About page carries the biography. Selected work carries the projects. The contact page separates photography from company work.
There is no claim here that a personal site can guarantee a particular search position. The point is to make the information clear enough that a reader does not have to reconstruct it from fragments.
Keep the words consistent
Gabe Key is the name used publicly. Gabriel Key is the alternate name. Baboosh is the name I streamed under, on Mixer and then Twitch, and the archive keeps that record. Apex, North Carolina is the location. GKeyPhoto is the photography practice, also known as GKPhoto. Firmkit is the company I founded. Secur-Tek is where I lead business development.
Those are the same facts that should appear on my LinkedIn profile, the photography site and Firmkit's About page. A title should describe the role, rather than grow more impressive each time it moves between platforms.
